Introduction

Recombinant human OSM protein is a recombinant growth factor designed for in vitro research, widely used in cell culture and organoid-related studies to support cell growth and functional analysis.

Background

Oncostatin M (OSM) is a secreted cytokine of approximately 28–30 kDa belonging to the interleukin-6 (IL-6) cytokine family. It is synthesized as a precursor polypeptide that undergoes proteolytic processing to generate the mature active form. OSM is primarily produced by activated T cells, macrophages, and other immune cells.

Like other IL-6 family cytokines, OSM signals through receptor complexes involving the common gp130 subunit. It forms functional signaling complexes with either LIFRα (type I receptor) or OSMRβ (type II receptor), activating downstream JAK/STAT, MAPK, and PI3K pathways.

OSM regulates inflammation, hematopoiesis, neuroprotection, metabolism, epithelial cell growth, and tissue remodeling. In stem cell research, recombinant OSM is frequently used to promote hepatocyte maturation from hepatoblasts, support hematopoietic differentiation, and modulate pluripotent stem cell states. Human OSM displays cross-species activity and is often active in murine systems.
