Introduction
Recombinant human NRG-1 protein is a recombinant growth factor designed for in vitro research, widely used in cell culture and organoid-related studies to support cell growth and functional analysis.
Background
Neuregulin-1 (NRG-1) is a member of the neuregulin family (NRG1–4), encoded by a single gene that generates extensive diversity through alternative promoter usage and alternative splicing. Multiple isoforms exist, differing in tissue distribution, receptor specificity, and biological activity.
All NRG-1 isoforms contain an epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domain responsible for receptor binding. This domain exists in α and β variants, with the β isoform generally exhibiting higher affinity toward ErbB4 receptors. NRG-1 signals through ErbB3 (HER3) and ErbB4 (HER4) receptor tyrosine kinases, triggering downstream PI3K/AKT and MAPK pathways.
NRG-1 is essential for cardiac morphogenesis, neural development, and synaptic function. Dysregulation has been associated with neuropsychiatric disorders and various cancers. In vitro, recombinant NRG-1 is commonly used in stem cell maintenance media and in protocols for cardiac and neuronal differentiation.
